Two Cover Shoots this Month

JP Photographer Stefan Johnson had 2 cover shots this month – Amir Khan for Fighting Fit and Mayweather, Khan and Froch for the Boxing News Annual. Stefan was really please with the Khan shoot and the design work for the cover really complimented his work.

Amir Khan – Fighting Fit Cover shoot

Boxers are notorious for their approachability and amir khan was no exception. having waited in his gym for around about an hour while Danny Flexan completed the interview I began to get a little nervous about photgraphing one of the countries leading boxers. But khan was extreamly accomodating and was even happy for me to pour water all over him… well as happy as you can be when getting cold water poured over you by a stranger. I had also been warned that I only had 30 minutes of shooting time by his manager because of an amatuer training session taking place in the gym. But my concerns about time were also quickly erradicted when Amir announced ‘dont worry about that. This is MY gym’.

Documenting a day in the life of Team GB

We were up in Sheffield this wednesday photographing the Olympic Boxing Team (aka Team GB). The level of dedication and athleticism demonstrated by these athletes is something to behold. There are a number of boxers who will be making a name for themselves in London 2012 including Londons little and large team Anthony Joshaua (pictured) and Charlie Edwards.

Darren Barker (and pit bull) shoot

We had an interesting editorial shoot with Darren Barker yesterday. Barker, the current British and European Middleweight champion is a true gentlemen, who is both warm and modest in equal measures. He will be taking on one of the worlds best boxers next month in Sergio Martinez. Amusingly Barker shows absolutely no concern about fighting arguably the worlds most vicious puncher but is, it turns out scared of dogs.

UFCs Jimmy Manuwa location shoot

Stefan photographed UFC sensation Jimmy Manuwa for fighting fit in his South London gym. The shoot was actually for a review of product that calculates punching and kicking power. The product wasnt too great but Mr Manuwas power was certainly something to behold.

Ashley Theophane Boxing News Article

JP Boxings studio photography of Ashley Theopane can be seen in this weeks Boxing News Q&A feature. With a dangerous bout against the in form Jason Cook on the Chisora Fury Wembley bill Theophane talks about….

Kevin Mitchell Feature – Fighting Fit

Stefan had two picture stories in Augusts Fight Fit edition. The second story concerned Kevin Mitchells progress before his make or break fight with his Northern counter part John Murray and his training technics with fitness coach and trainer Mark Tibbs.

Bradley Skeete Feature – Fighting Fit

Augusts Fighting Fit edition featured a 8 page story on JP Boxing favourite Bradley Skeete. The fantastic article was written by Danny Flexan and photographed by our own Stefan Johnson.

The feature followed the lead up to Bradleys bout on the undercard of the Degale v Groves sell out fight at the O2, looking closely at both the physical and mental elements of gearing up for such a big occasion. As a lot of you may know, Bradley was extremely unfortunate on the night of the show. Having spent hours locked away in a changing room waiting for his chance to shine in front of the 16,000 spectators his fight was eventually cancelled (due to scheduling and curfew issues).

Copies of fighting fit are available at most WHSmiths and well stocked corner shops.

Ryan Taylor Pro Debut

Ryan Taylor makes his debut on the undercard of ‘The Only Way is Barker’. The strong East Londoner is now training under Tony Sims (Barkers own trainer) and is looking forward to getting his first fight under his belt
